8 Clever Ways to Use Eyeshadow

These days, when it comes to cosmetics, there really are no rules. Beauty bloggers and gurus consistently push the envelope, finding fresh and unique ways to entertain their audience. And if there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that the products in your cosmetics bag are a lot more versatile than you think.

Especially your eyeshadow palettes! That’s right, your eyeshadow serves so many purposes besides just complimenting your pretty peepers. Curious about some of the creative ways that you can use your eyeshadow? Keep reading to find out more!

1. As an eyeliner

Using the angled side of your Moody Sisters multi task eyeshadow brush, you can dust a bit of shadow along your lash line instead of opting for eyeliner. One benefit of using eyeshadow is that you can make your liner as sharp or smudgy as you’d like. With an eyeliner pen, or even a liquid, you’re more limited. For a sharper line, dip the tip of your brush in a bit of water before application.

Substituting eyeliner with eyeshadow also gives you options, since it’s likely that you have shadows of varying colors. For daytime, you can go for something neutral like a soft brown, while at night you may want to play with bright blues or metallics. With a little practice, you can even nail the coveted winged eyeliner look that seems so tough to tackle.

2. Add some pucker to your pout

Have you ever heard of a Cupid’s Bow? No, we’re not talking about the Roman god of love, famous for his bow and arrows. We’re talking about the soft dip in your upper lip, the shape of which resembles a crossbow. Did you know that you can really make your pout POP with just a touch of shimmering shadow blended into your bow? Why splurge on lip fillers when you can get a similar effect with a little optical illusion? Try one of our Loose Natural Shadows, like the shade Crystal. You can apply with a soft brush, or with just the tip of your finger. Be sure to blend it out, and you’ll be ready to rock. Pro tip: apply before you put on your lipstick or lip gloss to avoid any of the loose powder falling and distorting the color.

3. In place of blush

Tired of your everyday makeup routine? Mix things up and swap your blush for a bold eyeshadow instead. The shades Jellyfish, Coral, and Arwen from our Pressed Natural Eyeshadow collection make beautiful blushes, whether you’re going for that sun kissed or soft rosy look. If you don’t already have the Moody Sisters Pointed Face Blush Brush in your tool kit, it may be time for an upgrade. You can use the tapered end to concentrate the color on the apple of your cheeks, or utilize the entire brush for a more blended application.

4. As a bronzer

The uses for eyeshadow don’t just stop at blush. You can’t forget about bronzer, too! Contour your nose, chin, and cheekbones with an eyeshadow of your choice. Shades with hints of yellow, orange, and red are ideal, as these are the undertones in most bronzers. Both cream and powdered shadows work great for bronzing. Choose a color with some sparkle to give your cheekbones some added dimension. As always, blend it out before setting so as not to overdo it with the shimmer.

5. To replace highlighter

Highlighter is a must-have in your makeup bag, and you probably already have more options than you think! All you’ve got to do is pop open your favorite eyeshadow palette, and take your pick of glittering gold or pearlescent colors. With the option to build your own 3 shade palette, you can create a full set of Moody highlighters tailored uniquely to you. Choose from shades like Force, Goldilocks, Pearl, or Skywalker and get glowing.

6. Touch up roots or hide dirty hair

On your last drop of dry shampoo, and in a pinch? Or maybe it’s been a few months since you’ve seen a salon, and your roots are starting to stand out. Before you panic, we’re here to tell you that you’ve got more options than you think! Depending on how dark or light your hair is, choose a matte eyeshadow that matches best, and apply liberally. This can be done with a large brush, or even with a toothbrush for more firmness along the hairline. Though it’s just a temporary fix, it’ll at least keep you feeling fresh until you’re able to make it to your hairdresser.

7. As brow filler

Bold brows are one of the defining beauty trends of the last decade. This is easily apparent from all of the eyebrow services and treatments now being offered. And that’s not to mention all of the products. From brow extensions, to tinting, and even microblading… it’s safe to say we’ve had brows on the brain for quite some time. But if expensive eyebrow treatments are not in your budget, you’re not alone.

Luckily, the same look can be achieved with items you already have in your arsenal. Grab your Moody Sisters Multi Task Brush, find your ideal shade, and lightly fill in any gaps in your brows. Keep in mind that the color is buildable, so apply gently and reapply as needed. When you’re finished, you can wipe away any excess with a cotton swab, and apply concealer to cover any boo boos.

8. On the lips

Get crafty and create your own lip glosses at home with items you can find under the sink. All you need is a touch of petroleum jelly, and a pinch of one of our perfectly pigmented eyeshadows and voilà - you have lip gloss! It’s easy to have fun with this, and to try things you normally might not. Purple lip gloss? Why not?! The shades Sea Witch, Twi’lek, and Fairy are a few of our top picks, but the options are endless. You can even mix many colors to concoct something entirely your own.
