Do I need to exfoliate my body?
Most of us have heard of the importance of exfoliating our faces. But do you really NEED to scrub your body too?
The short answer is yes.
Exfoliating your body with a scrub is like hitting the refresh button for your skin.
It sloughs off dead cells that clog pores and cause rough, bumpy textures like Keratosis pilaris.
Helps prevent and gently dislodge ingrown hairs by clearing hair follicles and softening surrounding skin.
Dramatically improves lotion absorption so moisturizers sink in instead of sitting on the surface.
Leaves skin smoother, more even-toned, and gloriously touchable.
To get the best results, start on clean, warm skin in the shower to soften pores; scoop a nickel-to-quarter sized amount of scrub and gently massage in circular motions—focus on rough spots like elbows, knees, and the backs of thighs but be gentle on sensitive areas—rinse thoroughly, pat dry, and immediately follow with your favorite moisturizer or oil to lock in hydration. We recommend scrubbing 1–2 times weekly depending on your skin’s sensitivity.
Worried a scrub would be too much for your super sensitive skin? You can try starting off with just a rough wash cloth and water. Scrub skin firmly 1-2 times a week to help remove dead skin cells.

Moody Body Scrubs are made with sugar (evaporated cane juice). We prefer sugar for scrubs because it exfoliates well without stripping natural oils, and it dissolves in water so you won’t run the risk of over-exfoliating and damaging your skin. We also use a foaming soap base, for gentle cleansing. Regular use can improve texture, prevent clogged pores on the body, and enhance the overall radiance of your skin.
Bonus: the delicious scents and ritual of scrubbing make self-care feel like a mini spa day.
How to Safely Use Sugar Scrubs
If you want to use a sugar scrub on your body, follow these tips to avoid damage:
Be Gentle: Apply the scrub in light, circular motions rather than scrubbing aggressively.
Avoid Irritated Skin: Never use a sugar scrub on sunburns, rashes, or open wounds.
Skip if You Have Eczema: Those with sensitive skin, eczema, or active inflammatory skin conditions should avoid physical scrubs altogether.
Moisturize: Always follow up with a hydrating lotion or body oil to lock in moisture.
